The final matchup to determine who will be crowned as NBA champions has been decided, with the Denver Nuggets set to face off against the Miami Heat. While the Nuggets faced a simple path to the Finals, winning their series 4-0 against the LA Lakers, the Heat had to fight a little harder to earn their place. The Conference Finals bout between Miami and the Boston Celtics was one that will live in the memory of basketball fans for years to come. After leading the series 3-0 and needing only a single win to progress, the Heat were looking just too good for the Celtics. However, a remarkable 3 game win streak from Boston followed, tying the series at 3-3 and sending the matchup to an all important 7th game. F1 fans were left disappointed in mid-May when the Emilia Romagna race was canceled due to dangerous conditions caused by heavy rain. 4. Bundesliga’s Brilliant Finale

The final day of German soccer’s Bundesliga was a historic day. Dortmund sat atop the league, leading rivals Bayern Munich by only one point after leaping in front of them thanks to a Bayern loss in the penultimate game of the season. This was Dortmund’s chance to win the league for the first time since 2012, and with their final game coming against mid-table side Mainz, the Yellow and Black side were confident. However, drama soon unfolded as Dortmund found themselves 2-0 down within the game’s first half an hour. It seemed like their Championship hopes were to be ended, until Bayern Munich conceded in their game against Köln in the 81st minute. This tied Bayern’s game, a result that meant Dortmund would still win the league regardless of their result. Borussia fans once again were celebrating, as with only a handful of minutes left for Munich, they were on track to lift the title. However, Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala managed to net an 89th minute winner for Bayern. Despite Dortmund coming back to tie their game 2-2, it was not enough to top the table, crushing the hope of Dortmund and sending the league to Munich for the 11th consecutive season! 5. Sheffield Wednesday’s Rollercoaster Ride

Playoff drama from English soccer’s third tier, League One, where one of the most thrilling games in the league’s history took place this May. The Playoff Semi Final pitted Sheffield Wednesday against Peterborough United in a two game series to determine who would progress to the final at Wembley Stadium. While it was Sheffield Wednesday who finished 3rd in the table, it was Peterborough, who managed to scrape into the playoffs in 6th place by only one point, who came out firing, taking a 4-0 lead in the first game. Most fans wrote off Sheffield Wednesday’s chances of coming back in the second leg, but what followed silenced them all. Knowing they needed to match Peterborough’s lead from the first game, Wednesday managed to put together a resilient performance, with two first half goals, a goal in the 71st minute, followed by a miraculous 98th minute goal scored to tie the game and force extra time. Further drama followed, with Peterborough taking the lead on aggregate once again with an extra time goal, before Wednesday pulled out one final equalizer to send the game to penalties, where they walked away victorious. 6. French Open Underway

The French Open got underway late in May, with some notable moments already occurring. World number two Daniel Medvedev will have surely been confident of his chances of winning the entire tournament going into the first round, but his hopes were cut short in a shocking upset. It was 172nd ranked Thiago Seyboth Wild who managed to defeat Medvedev in one of the biggest shocks in the history of the tournament. The result was all the more remarkable considering Seyboth Wild had not won a grand slam match previously, or even a tour level match all year! The NHL Playoffs produced some incredible moments this May, but this from the Florida Panthers’ Matthew Tkachuk tops them all. In the Eastern Conference decider between the Panthers and the Carolina Hurricanes, it looked as if the teams were heading for overtime with the game tied 3-3. However, with just 4.9 seconds of regulation remaining, Tkachuk stepped up, scoring at the death to send the Panthers’ to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 1996!
